Academic Interests
My academic interests fall within language- and text-oriented Islamic studies, with particular emphasis on knowledge production and authority. I am broadly interested in Arabic-Islamic intellectual history. In my doctoral project I traced parts of a conceptual history of concepts of social trust and identified the role these concepts played in different branches of knowledge. Later, in a postdoctoral project, I dealt with the life, works and reception of the North African al-Qadi ʿIyad (d. 1149), and I continue to work on various aspects of this authorship. I am also broadly interested in Qur’anic Studies, and the Qur’anic text, and the interpretation and reception of the text. In an ongoing project, I map the field of Qur’anic translations in Scandinavia, as well as explore the interpretive strategies and interpretive authority in these translations. Finally, I investigate the history of the field of Islamic Studies and the production of knowledge about Islam in Norway. I am also interested in contemporary Islam in Norway in a broader sense, and I have, among other things, researched the teaching of children and young people among Muslims.
