Academic interests
In a position divided between the Faculty of Theology and the Museum of Cultural History, I teach and explore medieval and Early Modern art and my research interests center on the making and meaning-making of artefacts ca. 1200–1600. I also pursue an interest in medieval and early modern material culture more broadly, the history and theory of the ornamental, portraiture, the history of dress and fashion, gender studies and historiography.
Currently, I am working on a monograph with the tentative title Christ Appearing to His Mother in Late Medieval Art. Visualizing the Resurrection across Convents, Parishes, and Courts (under contract with Routledge). I am also PI of "Dressing the Saints: Gendering and Othering in Netherlandish Art at the Dawn of a Globalised World" funded by the Research Council of Norway (FRIPRO), Oct 2025 - Sep 2029.
