Theme

The United Nations declared 2021–2030 as Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. Saving the world oceans is an extraordinary complex venture requiring insights from all brands of the academy; from physics, chemistry, and biology through politics, economy, and law to textual, linguistic, and cultural studies. “Oceanic” research is developing as a truly cross-disciplinary field. The OCEAN seminar will harbour a «thick» conversation on traditions, discourses, beliefs, and regimes that regulate human interaction with, and exploitation of, the world oceans.

ATTR’s main cooperating partner for this seminar will be the Norwegian Centre for the Law of the Sea (NCLOS). UiT.  We also seek cooperation with ongoing research projects oriented towards cultural knowledge of and use of the sea.

The aim is to explore successful integration of humanist research on texts and traditions into scholarship on political and ecological issues, and thus to inspire similar developments in other thematic fields, like those listed in the ECR 2030 Agenda.

As usual, there will be a line of PhD seminars, and also an alumni seminar dedicated to the development of post doc projects.
