Postdoc Thomas Arentzen has been awarded a prestigious fellowship in Byzantine Studies at Dumbarton Oaks in 2018-19.
Dumbarton Oaks is a Washington DC estate that can trace its history back to the 18th century. It was the conference here in 1944 that led to the establishment of the UN.
Today Dumbarton Oaks is one of the world's most important research institutions in the fields of Byzantine Studies, Pre-Colombian Studies and Landscape Architecture. The Byzantine collection houses a unique collection of objects from the Byzantine period. The research institution is owned by Harvard University.
Every year, half a dozen scholars from around the world are offered a fellowship for conducting Byzantine research at the center. In addition, a few junior fellowships are awarded to doctoral candidates.
Dumbarton Oaks publishes the scholarly journal Dumbarton Oaks Papers and publishes widely within its fields, together with the Harvard University Press.
