Nils Astrup Dahl Lecture by Alan Segal

The fourth Dahl-lecture is held by Professor Alan Segal on the topic: The Social Basis for Life After Death.

Professor Alan Segal was Nils A. Dahl’s student at Yale and is an internationally renowned history of religion scholar with an emphasis on Jewish-Christian relations.

Among his books are Two Powers in Heaven: Early Rabbinic Reports about Christianity and Gnosticism, 1977; Rebecca’s Children: Judaism and Christianity in the Roman world, 1986; Paul the Convert: The Apostolate and Apostasy of Saul the Pharisee, 1990.

His latest book, Life after Death: A History of the Afterlife in the Religions of the West, 2004, got much praise and also created much discussion and controversy.

Nils Alstrup Dahl (1911-2001) was one of the most influential theologians Norway has fostered in the 20th Century. The Faculty of Theology has instituted a Dahl-lecture to promote theological research within the scope of Dahl’s research by inviting internationally renowned researchers to the University of Oslo.
