Submission of thesis

What do you submit?

  • Four bound copies of the thesis.
  • The thesis as a PDF file.
  • An application in the form of a letter to have the thesis adjudicated, also containing a statement that the thesis has not been submitted for adjudication to another institution
  • Confirmation that the organized research training has been completed, signed by the PhD leader.
  • Documentation of procurement of the necessary permission pursuant to research ethics guidelines, if applicable.
  • Co-author declaration, if applicable.

Where do you submit?

The thesis should be delivered to the office of the research adviser, which is on the ground floor of Domus Theologica, Blindernveien 9, or sent to the Faculty of Theology, PO Box 1023 Blindern, NO-0315 Oslo.

The thesis must also be delivered as an electronic PDF file, which must be sent to forskningsadministrasjon@teologi.uio.no.

Who covers the costs?

The faculty does not pay for the printing of the copies submitted for adjudication. You are free to decide where to print them – the University Print Centre at Blindern is one option. Tape binding is the best option for black and white theses of less than 125 sheets.

Proofreading

Do not submit a thesis that has not been checked for technical and linguistic errors. Check the references. It is a good idea to use an electronic spellchecker to weed out any linguistic errors.

Even though the thesis will primarily be adjudicated based on its academic merits, a thesis with linguistic or technical errors may not convey information adequately, which may lead to the thesis not being approved for public defence.

Paying to have the thesis proofread may be a good investment. Feel free to set aside allocated funds to cover this expense. As a doctoral research fellow, you can apply to the faculty for funds to cover proofreading.

Notification of submission

Notify the research adviser no later than a month before submission of the thesis.  In that way the work of appointing an adjudication Committee can begin. This can reduce the waiting period between submission of the thesis and presentation of the adjudication committee's recommendation.

Submitting a revised thesis?

If you have been granted permission to submit a revised version of the thesis within a six-month deadline, you must follow the same submission procedure as described above.

You must also send a cover letter to the adjudication committee marked "Submission of revised thesis", where you provide a brief account of the changes made.

Resubmitting?

You must follow the same submission procedure as the first time. Remember to state that you are resubmitting. If you have submitted the thesis to a different educational institution in the past, you must state the name of the institution.
