Discipline and Dissertation-Specific Course
10 credits (= about 280 hours work effort)
Objective
The discipline and dissertation specific course is to serve to work up sufficient understanding of the relevant scholarly discipline and scholarly field particularly applicable to the candidate’s dissertation work. It is also to service to give the dissertation work a broader scholarly horizon, nationally and internationally.
Implementation
Discipline and dissertation specific courses can be chosen from a broad spectrum of possible courses at ph.d. level (see below). The ph.d. candidate themselves have responsibility for documenting participation in a sufficient number of discipline and dissertation specific courses, so that the taught component in total (obligatory and optional part) makes up at least 30 credits.

- Research courses taking place at the Faculty of Theology, often in connection with ongoing research projects at the faculty, and with lecturers at an international level.
- Research courses at the equivalent level and direction taking place in the context of researcher schools collaborating with the Faculty of Theology’s ph.d. program.
- Research courses at the equivalent level and direction at Nordic collaborating institutions within the Nordic Network for Doctoral Training in Theology and Religion.
- Research courses at the equivalent level and direction in scholarly networks other Faculty of Theology researchers are connected to (see the list of these).
- Other external courses that have not been aproved beforehand.
Adaptation and Quality Control of External Courses
For approval of external courses without approval beforehand, the Faculty of Theology follows a particular procedure.
