I am trained both as theologian and as social anthropologist and researches (women’s) theological agency and ritual performance at the intersection of institutional religion (Christian) and popular culture (Pagan/Traditional).

I have conducted ethnographic fieldwork in USA and Norway, studying feminist Witchcraft and emerging new rites of Christian confirmation. Presently I work in a South African township, learning about women’s post-traditional attempts at instigating social change by reinterpreting indigenous resources (symbol, narrative, ritual).

My teaching areas include contemporary religion, method, ritual studies, constructive theology and feminist theory.
